Just a reminder to our residents during these cold weather months.
As stated in Local Law No. 1 adopted in 1995, “The Village will maintain meters where ordinary wear and tear is concerned, but in the case of damage and freezing, hot water or external damage, the customer will be held responsible for repairs.”
Each individual meter has a frost plate on the bottom of the meter, which is intended to break in the event of a freeze in order to protect the meter itself. To prevent this frost plate from breaking, the property owner should keep the meter safe from freezing by using heat tape or pipe insulation. The Village of Stamford will replace the frost plate one time, free of charge, but in the case of second mishap, the business/home owner will be responsible for the cost of a new frost plate.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
