Regarding removal of snow from sidewalks:
Removal of snow from village sidewalks is not required by New York State; the Village of Stamford has traditionally provided this service as a courtesy to village property owners. Most New York Villages can ill afford such a service and so the responsibility falls on the individual property owners. Thanks to the generosity of the Robinson Broadhurst Foundation the Village is able to acquire and maintain specialized equipment for this purpose. Without this support, village property owners would have to clear sidewalks associated with their property themselves.
The Village DPW Crew has to clear village streets of snow BEFORE addressing the sidewalks. Clearing roads and streets of snow must be done first to facilitate the movement of automobile, truck and school bus traffic. Sidewalks are addressed when streets are completely cleared of snow. Any other village issue, water main break, sewer issue or any other village emergency will take precedent over clearing of sidewalks should such a situation occur concurrently with a snowfall.
The Mayor and Trustees ask for your patience regarding sidewalk snow removal. This is not a top priority during snow emergencies and is subject to discontinuation should the financial burden have a substantial impact on the village budget and tax levy.
We thank you for your understanding in this important matter.
